Manchester United remain the only English team to have claimed Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League trophies in the same season, but Manchester City are 9/2 with bwin to land the same Treble bet.

The Blues won all three major domestic competitions two years ago and will now be determined to also conquer Europe for the first time.

In fact, a historic quadruple is even on the cards, with Pep Guardiola’s side 2/7 favourites for EFL Cup success against Tottenham at Wembley.

However, here are the obstacles standing between City and the conventional Treble triumph:

PREMIER LEAGUE

With the Blues 14 points clear of neighbours United at the top of the table, bwin have stopped betting on whether they will finish at the summit for the third time in four seasons. After making a shaky start to the campaign, City rattled off 15 consecutive league victories between mid-December and March’s derby defeat to help open up what looks an unassailable lead.

FA CUP

City have brushed aside Birmingham, Cheltenham, Swansea and Everton to reach the semi-finals, with Chelsea awaiting them at Wembley. Thomas Tuchel has turned the London club into a team that is very hard to beat and they have enjoyed league wins over City in each of the past two seasons, as well as taking them to penalties in the 2019 EFL Cup final, so this is no walkover. However, Guardiola’s men are 4/5 favourites for outright glory in the May 15 decider, when Leicester or Southampton will be the other finalists.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

This competition has been the blot on Guardiola’s copybook during his time at Etihad Stadium, with City suffering a series of surprise exits against the likes of Lyon, Tottenham and Monaco, as well as losing out to Liverpool. However, the Blues are on course for a first semi-final appearance since being shaded by Real Madrid in 2016. After cruising through the group stage, Borussia Monchengladbach were beaten 2-0 at home and away, setting up a date with Borussia Dortmund in the last eight. Holders Bayern Munich or PSG could prove tough opponents after that, but City head the betting on 9/4 at this stage for what may prove the final leg of a famous Treble bet.
