Algeria forward Islam Slimani celebrates

Algeria vs Guinea: Desert Foxes are in fine form

Kick-off: 2000, 07/07/2019

Stadium: 30 June Stadium

TV: Eurosport

Algeria were amongst the most impressive teams during the Africa Cup of Nations pool stage and are hard to oppose when taking on Guinea in the last 16.

Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez is the headline name in a formidable forward line, while a less-heralded defence has looked solid at this tournament so far.

We’re happy to take 4/5 for the Desert Foxes to get the job done in normal time for our first Algeria vs Guinea prediction.

A Look At Algeria’s Betting Odds

Mahrez and prolific Qatar-based marksman Baghdad Bounedjah were on target when Algeria kicked off with a 2-0 defeat of Kenya.

Youcef Belaili scored the only goal of the game against Senegal, while Napoli midfielder Adam Ounas bagged a brace in the 3-0 triumph over Tanzania, with Leicester striker Islam Slimani also netting.

Head coach Djamel Belmadi rested Mahrez and Galatasaray playmaker Sofiane Feghouli for that contest and was delighted with the players coming in.

He said: “Those who played are not substitutes, they are part of the team and train with passion.”

Having failed to fulfil their potential for a number of years now, the Desert Foxes are looking like the finished article.

Their big names are generally experienced but still under 30, while several exciting youngsters seem comfortable on this stage.

Looking at the Algeria vs Guinea odds, five of their six Group C goals came before the break, so 19/10 they lead at half-time and full-time takes the eye.

A Look At Guinea’s Betting Odds

Guinea gave themselves work to do in Group B after drawing 2-2 with Madagascar and then losing 1-0 to Nigeria, but a 2-0 victory over Burundi saw them advance as one of the best third-placed teams.

Auxerre striker Mohamed Yattara hit a double in that game and is one of several players plying their trade for decent European clubs.

However, the National Elephants have been rocked by an injury to Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita and now lack experience in that department.

The likes of Bordeaux forward Francois Kamano and Dijon front man Sory Kaba could still make things interesting.

But we prefer 35/4 for the Desert Foxes to prevail 2-1 for our Algeria vs Guinea betting tips.
